Dinner to Celebrate World Senior Citizens' Day & 21st Anniversary

I was invited again by my friend, honorary & erudite, to attend a dinner function at Dewan Sri Tebrau, MBJB, Johor Bahru in conjunction with the Celebration of World Senior Citizens' Day and 21st Anniversary.

Due to power outage around this area, many guests were stranded along Jalan Tebrau leading to this venue, causing the dinner function to tarry a bit. It was fortunate that this Dewan was spare of the disaster.

Of course, the normal protocol for this kind of function was accompanied by the attendance of VIPs, followed by speeches which were bloviated. Notwithstanding that, they were always apologetic for being talking at length. Anywhere, these were their jobs. Our jobs were to eat and enjoy, most importantly be entertained.

Despite the many formalities that the committee members had to go through, tonight the celebration kicked off without vapid atmosphere. There were breath-taking event after event for the whole night.

Dancing exhibition - Line Dancing

Classical Chinese Music.

Drawing Demo by a local famous artist. This painting was pre-ordered at RM3000.

Could you spot the ex-minister in this picture?

This dude is the boffo singing teacher, enjoying macushla status in the singing fraternity.

Fashion Parade. - I think this is not a de facto costume in Malaysia!

Behind the scene - cooking carried on besides the hall.

The dining tables were properly numbered as evinced with the Number Signage. I was assigned to table No. 39A. They were new group of friends who had triumphantly conquered Tibet recently, overcoming high attitude syndrome.

A little secret. In anticipation of a good meal, I had a very very light lunch which caused me feeling very peckish before the dinner was started. Luckily, the first dish was out at 8.30 pm. The foods on the whole were palatable.

Cold Dish - comprises chicken wing, otak0-otak, century egg, crab-claw, popiah and jelly fish.

"Shark fin" Soup.

Steamed fish - steamy hot

Hard to tell from the photo - it is deep fried prawn decorated with prawn crackers

Deep fried chicken - very tasty

Vegetarian Food - Tau foo, assorted mushrooms

Lotus Glutinous rice - rich fillings - dried prawn, peanut, salted eggs, chicken.

The canned longan, pretty standard dessert.

Scented Towel.

Karaoke Competition

The finale of this dinner function was karaoke competition.

You might not agree that their singings were euphonious. But think again, do you have the moxie to go up the stage? Do give them some due recognition.Despite the hall was sonorous, each and every singers who aspired to become champion did endeavour to croon their best. One thing for sure, the competition judges were advertent to the singing, I couldn't say for others.

Many guests made their egresses quite early despite the programme was still on going. If you understood the local condition, such early departure was deemed necessary and practical, lest you would be caught in the haphazard exodus.

I too could not wait for the climactic moment of the prize-giving event for the successful winner in the Karaoke competition. Therefore, my post had to stop here as I didn't know what happened after I left.
