Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics.

Under what circumstances that you prefer to listen to lies rather than truth?

I like to recount this episode of life , maybe fictitious, which I heard over the radio.

At a dance party, there was this lady sitting alone. After a while, she approached a man.

"Would you care for this dance?"

"No, " said the man.

"Why?"

"Oh, you are ugly." came the reply.

Half way through the party, another man approached that lady.

"May I have the pleasure to dance with you?" asked the second man.

"Why do you want to dance with me?"

"Because you are pretty and elegant." answered the second man.

Many years later, both men received a letter from this lady who had just passed away.

The letter to the second man reads as follows:-

Dear,

Thank you for the dance. I truly enjoyed it. You did the right thing by complimenting me albeit I know it was not true and indeed you lied to me. But the most important thing was that you made me happy. So, I have left a will for you to inherit my property.

Signed.

The letter to the first man reads as follows:-

Dear,

I fully understand the reason you objected to my request for a dance. You were right, you didn't lie, you told the truth, I knew I was not pretty. But that truth hurt me. So, I have left all my property to the other man who danced with me at that night.

Signed.

In addition to the lies mentioned by Mark Twain, there is another kind of lies and it is called the white lies. The above mentioned story somehow can be considered as white lies.

Why are they so many people like the company of social escorts or GRO because they all can tell white lies. I have this wealthy man who is not so handsome. Each time he patronises night clubs or lounges, he always asks the girls not to tell the truth but to lie as much as possible. So these girls would say words like " Handsome man is here again."

So, what is your choice now?
