IKM(Malaysian Institute of Chemistry http://www.ikm.org.my/index.html) Southern Branch seemed to have not organised any field trip for members for quite some time. ( My record may not be up to date.) But I remembered my last visit was an educational tour to a biscuit manufacturer in Tampoi, Johor Bahru. If you want to retrace your past memory to this factory, sad to tell you that this premise is already gone for many many years. So, when was it? Do a simple word-to-math calculation.
It was only three days ago that the past president of IKM told me about this excursion. Not wanting to waste the opportunity, I contacted the Hon. Secretary but it was futile. The reason being that he had changed his phone number again.
The Hon. Secretary had his way to be reached. Yes, he depended heavily on email. So, if you failed in one form of communication, you could try his email. He believed in adopting internet protocol where communication was not route dependent, there was always a back-up. So after an exchange of email, I was duly registered for this trip.
Date : 21 November , 2009
Time : 8.30 am
Place of Departure : Leisure Mall, Johor Bahru.
This place was chosen because it offered whole day parking for RM1.00.
We had to thank the Hon.Treasurer for funding this excursion ( maybe the Committee too). So, I put on record my thanks here. To be more correct, the IKM Committee was responsible for the funding and organising this tour, the Hon. Treasurer was the channel through which the money was extracted.
Time: 8.36 am.
The Hon. Secretary assumed a second role as tourist guide. His job was to count the participants, making sure all are on board and the whole shebang.
" First, we visit Marina Barrage, ... , then in the afternoon Science Centre. Make sure you bring along enough Singapore Dollars for the lunch and the entrance."
If you look at the sequence of the pictures shown below, we did not visit Marina Barrage first but the Science Centre!!! The reasons were only known to few persons.
Time:9.17 am.
The bus waited for us at Immigration Check Point, Singapore.
Science Centre Singapore
Time :10.30 am.
Time taken from Singapore Immigration Check Point to Science Centre Singapore = 1 hr 15 minutes.
The Google Map guide gave a distance of 19 km between Woodlands Checkpont and Science Centre as 19 km with estimate time of travelling 23 minutes. Why the bus driver took such a long time to reach here, especially there was no traffic congestion along the way? I rather would not want to mention here(supra).
It is always a good practice to get hold of a copy of the Science Centre Map so you do not go on a wild goose chase. This Centre covers a wide area so do not expect to spend only one day here. However, the prime purpose of this visit was to acquire knowledge about the "who-actually-created" human being.
Time : 10.50 am.
You had to plunk down S$21.00 for this entrance ticket.
The promotional flyer.
As photography was prohibited inside the exhibition hall, so no pictures of the exhibits were reproduced here. Anywhere, some pictures were produced without the permission of the Science Centre. Maybe I would remove it if they wanted to object.
When you looked at the exhibits, imagined they were once alive and now they exhibited themselves more nakedly than before. Any way, don't flinch; don't blink and don't let them frighten you.
Out there, you could find many YouTube videos on Body Worlds Exhibition. I just liked to include one here for the sack of a "complete" post. ( Actually it is not that complete.)
Most of the exihibits shown in the video were actually on display in this Science Centre Singapore.
You could see the promotional banners everywhere.
This was one of the free displays that you could see at the Science Centre Singapore.
The toilets were subject to stringent control of Ministry of Environment. You can see many more "OK" signs in many parts of Singapore or simply they are ubiquitous.
A very sophisticated scanner for entrance ticket. I was not very sure of the use of the keypad. You were guided to place the ticket in the designated area as shown.
Waterworks.
The President was busy setting up his photographic implement, but his subjects were not ready!
The participants seemed to be oblivious of the President's action.
Finally, the mission was accomplished.
This picture was the compliment from Hon. Secretary. Thanks again.
The fact that all the IKM members were able to eat after watching "Body Worlds" shows there was nothing to be frightened off in this world.
i. The Barrage / Marina Walk
To view the Barrage /Marina Bridge, you could either take the staircase or the life. Since we all think young, so all going up by staircase.
I was not very sure whether this guide was working for the PUB or otherwise? She was giving a guided tour to a group of primary school students. As her explanation was so good, I also tagged along, benefiting from her explanation.
I have a premonition that this Marina Bridge will be the most popular bridge in future. Reasons will be given in future, on the hind sight.
This was a very interesting contraption. It's main function was to lift the vessel from sea-water side to the reservoir side or vice versa.
This was the reservoir-side.
The was the sea-water side.
This contraption moved along the constructed tracks, hoisting the vessel with its belts.

ii. Drainage Pumps
iii. Green Roof
A state-of-art panel for lift.
At this Green Roof, you were constantly offered the view of Singapore Flyer and the Sands which were under construction.

This small signage was found on the wall. Do you think you can locate it the next time you make a visit to this place? I doubt.

v. Solar Park
