Four Fail-Proof-Home-Cooked Dishes

I have many posts waiting to be published, however, today I wish to do a non-profit advertorial for my sister. This post is also easier to write as there was already a write-up by the reporter. To benefit readers who are in the proses of learning Chinese, I will just give a synopsis of the contents.

This post is based on the local Chinese newspaper cutting that featured my sister's cooking .


The writing is not too important. However, if you have the time, please read it. Initially, I want to translate it but the job is a bit daunting. May be some kind soul can do it on my behalf.



Oriental Mustard( Gai Choy) Soup
Ingredients
i. Gai Choy 600 gm
ii. pork ( with skin) 400 gm
iv. red date - 15 pcs
v. dried mushroom - 8 pcs
vi. dried squid - 1 pc
water - 10 bowls
Methods
a. soak mushroom till soft, gai choy is cut in cube shape
b. when water is boiled, add in mushroom, red date, dried squid and pork
c. Simmer on slow fire for 30 minutes
d. Add in gai choy and cook for another 30 minutes
e. Season with salt according to your taste



Chicken and Pepper cooked in Black Bean Paste

Ingredients
i. Chicken breast meat
( marinate with salt, sugar, pepper, soya sauce and sesame oil)
ii. green pepper
iii. black bean paste - 1 tablespoon
iv. carrot - half stick
v. mushroom - 2 pcs
vi. garlic - 2 cloves
vii. onion - 1 pc
viii. salt, pepper and sugar
ix. corn starch


Methods
a. Marinate the chicken meat
b. Cut and slice the mushroom, onion and garlic
c. Stir fry the garlic and onion
d. add in black bean paste
e. chicken
f. carrot and others
g. add dissolved starch in water in order to thicken the sauce



Papaya and White Fungus "sweet water"

Ingredients
a. half-ripe papaya - half
b. White fungus - 1 pc
c. red date - 20 pcs
d. goji - 10- 20 pcs
e. rock sugar - moderate amount
f. water - 10 bowls
g. quail egg - 10 pc

Method
a. cut the papaya into cube shape
b. Put all the ingredients in a slow cooker

The "sweet water" can be taken hot or cold

Braised Pork rib with Yam
Ingredients
a. yam 400 gm
b. pork rib 400 gm
c. roast pork 200 gm
d. black fungus 2 pcs
e. cilantro

Method

a. Marinate the pork rib with 1 teaspoon of sugar, salt, sesame oil, Chinese HuaTiow wine and preserved red bean
b. cut the black fungus into thin slices
c. yam and pork are cut in cube shape
d. put all the ingredients in a claypot
e. cook for about one and half hours
f. decorate with cilantro
